On the evening of August 18, the trimaran sailed from the harbor of Du Chateau, Brest, France. On this festive day, the 176th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society and the Geographer’s Day, Evgeny and Stanislav participated in the forum A lesson from the ocean, organized by the Tomsk branch of the RGS together with the school Integration. After the forum, the travelers gave two interviews to French television correspondents and began preparing for departure. The next point of the route is La Coruña, Spain, which is 360 miles away. According to the preliminary forecast, if the weather is good, the travelers intend to arrive in the city on August 22.
In Brest, the travelers continued their mission of public diplomacy and interviewing locals.
On August 19 at 10 a.m. at French time the crew of the expedition contacted the Coastal Center. The travelers reported via satellite link that they were now moving through the Bay of Biscay. The weather in the gulf is quite cool, it had been raining all previous night. There was a headwind, so they had to go close to the shore.
The crew and the Coastal Center of the expedition would like to thank the Russian House of Science and Culture in France represented by Marina Ignatieva for assistance and organization of meetings with people, as well as residents of Brest – Alena Konash and Tatiana Mironova for care and attention and for helping us as much as they could.
