On August 25, the administration of the port of La Coruña hosted a press conference with the crew of the circumnavigation expedition “On the way of Russian circumnavigators”. At the meeting, the crew of the trimaran “Russian Ocean Way” in the person of Evgeny Kovalevskiy and Stanislav Berezkin, as well as the head of the Coastal Center, Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, told the residents of Spain and the local media about the unique international project. The siberians met with colleagues from the Spanish Geographical Society and representatives of the Russian embassy.
The expedition of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society “On the way of Russian round-the-world travelers” reached the port of La Coruña, Spain. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia in Spain Yuriy Korchagin, president of the port authority of La Coruña Martin Fernandez Prado and honorary consul of Russia in Galicia Pedro Mourinho Usal warmly greeted the crew of the trimaran and Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, who arrived from Tomsk. The circumnavigators told the residents of Spain how and why they went on a trimaran for a two-year voyage across the oceans. Representing Siberia on Spanish land, the team of the expedition touched upon the topic of the tourist potential of this huge part of Russia. So, Yulia Kalyuzhnaya made a presentation of the interregional tourist route “The Golden Ring of Siberia” (Discovering Siberia), the coordinator and ideological inspirer of which she is.
Javier Alonso, vice president of the Spanish geographical society, greeted the expedition members – members of the Russian geographical society and, on behalf of the Royal society, expressed great interest in initiating joint projects.
“In 2020, the Russian geographical society and the Royal geographical society of Spain signed a cooperation agreement. It is very important that now close relationships are being built with the Siberian branches. This allows fruitful cooperation in the field of geography, ethnography, history and ecology, ”said Alonso.
At the meeting on August 25 with members of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society, prospects for cooperation between organizations in the academic environment were outlined. Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, associate professor of Tomsk state university, initiated development of the joint project for the exchange of students and teachers between Tomsk State University and universities of La Coruña.
All conference participants were invited to the festival of the Russian geographical society, which is held in December of this year in Tomsk (organized by the Tomsk branch of the Russian geographical society).
As a symbol of Spanish hospitality, the expedition members received a nameplate from the port authority about the visit of the “Russian Ocean Way” trimaran to the port of La Coruña.
